MANUALLY FIRST AID TRAINING

Written by Ichal Abas, Programme  Manager  KOMPAK  Nabire

Manually First Aid Training was holded by KoMPaK on July 31st 2010 and supported by OXFAM-GB in their Building Resilience programme which is funded by AUSAID. Crisis Center as a part of Healthy Service of Nabire Residence also take a part in it.The hall of Education and Teaching Service (Dinas Pendidikan dan Pengajaran) of Nabire Residence became the place of this event.

We got 42 participants that are 16 men and 26 women, and women were the most enthusiastic participant ( perhaps that was caused by their  quantitatively majority, wasn’t it…??J heheee --adapted by translator from: mungkin karna jumlahnya lebih banyak ee...?? J heheee) so that they were so active in doing victim’s stabilitation and handling practice. On the other hand, men didn’t want to be inferior to the women. So they also performed the same thing like the women had done though they were defeated quantitatively. Another practice is handling broken arm case. This is meant to if any time they get this case around their environment, they could be the first man who will give any help before the rescue come or take him to the nearest health care.

As a following up of TSK (Tim Siaga Kampung, kampong alert disaster team) and TBS (Tim Bencana Sekolah, school disaster team) which were formed on 10 kampong BR programme target, and 14 schools on Mey untuk Juni 2010, this event got every Emergency Respon Section person.

After PCVA (Participatory Community Vulneralbility Appraisal) had been done by KoMPaK and community, then arranging the SOP (Standard Operational Procedure), RAM (Rencana Aksi Masyarakat/Community Action Plan) and TSK/TBS forming, absolutely this event should be done for the First Aid personel in TSK/TBS in order to increasing their knowledge and skill.

The constraint of this event was incomplete participants, from 48 invitations we got 42 person. It maybe caused by this event went on Saturday, the Sabbath day  for the Adventist, the religion of them.

Besides that, the other constraint in  BR programme was when we arranged RAM, the community tended to see every NGO who come to them must make some physical project like bathroom, well, even there were a part of them want us to build house for them,..!!!!

Our explaination that this programme tends to increasing their capability and knowledge in disaster risk minimalization to threathen which are around them could change their frame to this BR programme….. J (it could be--ENG--itu boleh.....heheheeeee)

Community’s sight about these physical aid couldn’t be accused, because before this BR programme exist, it has there be another NGO with physical project for them so that what they imagine about NGO are the same. After many discussion and get explaination about BR programme’s purpose, they could accept it slowly. However, there still person who didn’t care about this programme but that isn’t the big constraint because more people at kampongs and schools accept this programme well.J

After this First Aid training, on August 2010, KoMPaK and OXFAM GB plan to make Early Warning System in every beneficiaries kampong in Nabire. The method we’ll use is FGD (Focus Group Discussion) for TSK especially Early Warning section and community in order to choose early warning signs any time the threatens in their ares get potential as disaster.

That’s a little leakage from us...... hihihiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...........—ENG, Itulah sedikit bocoran dari kami...... hihihiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...........

Let’s prevent the people from become the victims and another assets with this BR programme ….--ENG

Mari  tong  cegah  jatuhnya korban jiwa dan lain-lain dengan program BR ini....

MANTAAAAAAABBBBB...!!!!!!!!

Koooo........ Yaaaaaaa..... Ooooooooooooooo............. J
